personal brandingYou have a Facebook page, you Tweet, you’re LinkedIn. But, do you know how to make the best use out of social networking sites to advertise yourself and your business with personal branding?

For starters, what exactly is personal branding? The answer is quite simple: personal branding is a way to attract friends, clients, and many employment and business opportunities. If you are in business, it is extremely important that you have a personal brand. The way to grow any business whether it be in the on or offline world is to get people to know, like and trust you. By having a picture and a logo that represents who you are, you will connect with people on a more personal level. This is important, because at the end of the day people don’t want to join a company, they want to partner with a real person.

Essentially, by using personal branding, you can create a profile that will tell people you are trustworthy, talented, knowledgeable, and an expert in your field. And, it doesn’t cost a thing! You can take advantage of personal branding on all of the social networking sites, which you are probably already a member of anyway.
When you create your personal brand, you are telling potential clients that you are a unique individual, and showing them what separates you from the competition. Because the business market today is highly competitive, you need a personal brand to keep your edge, making you stand out in the crowd and get noticed!

Tips for creating a great personal brand online

  • Choose a user name. It can be real or made up (using your real name can actually instill a sense of trust in potential clients, because they will see that you are not trying to hide anything).
  • Try to own your domain. If your name is available, dot com it!
  • Figure out what makes you unique, and portray that uniqueness in one or two short paragraphs. Let others know what is special about you and/or your business.
  • Post a great photo of yourself. Smile and be engaging, people like eye contact.
  • Design a logo, or have one designed for you. This will be as recognizable, or even more so, than your profile photo. Tweet pages can do great logos and design your you tube, and twitter backgrounds as well as personalise your logo on facebook.
  • Post your brand everywhere! Get your brand out there. The more sites you post on, the more potential clients you will be able to reach.
  • Be conscious of what you are sharing on social networking sites, let people get to know you but be professional as well. Make sure that you are providing value 90% of the time..

How to get your personal brand noticed

If you want people to notice your personal brand, you have to take steps to get it out there. There are a few things you can do to ensure that your personal brand is visible all over the Internet, including:
Get noticed on professional profiles. Create personal brands on websites such as LinkedIn and Google.
Don’t forget social networking. Incorporate your personal brand into your profile. Just remember that for safety purposes, you may not want to reveal too much personal information.

Be consistent, choose a particular brand and stick with that. Try to have the same picture of you everywhere you go and if you have a logo you can tie that as well into your Blog, Youtube and Twitter backgrounds.

So get out there today, get a great photo of yourself and post it wherever you are.  People want to know you and connect with you!
